MechWarrior Mercenaries Installation - by Smutroy
Here is the process:

1. - Install MW Vengeance (Optional)
If you have it, not absolutely necessary, but at least having the game / CD will save you having a lot of downloading of terrain files. As you will see further into this guide.

2. - Install MW Black Knight (optional)
If you have it, not absolutely necessary, but at least having the game / CD will save you having a lot of downloading of terrain files. As you will see further into this guide.

3. - Install MW Mercenaries

4. - Install MW4: Mercs PR1
Patch Release 1 for Mercs. It addresses the so-called “Fog Hack” & “Heat Bug” as well as a number of additional balancing and game stability issues.

5. - Install Inner Sphere Mech Pack
If you have it, not absolutely necessary, without it certain mechs will not be available to you in the game.

6. - Install Clan Mech Pack
If you have it, not absolutely necessary, without it certain mechs will not be available to you in the game.

7. - Install MekTek Pro Series
These include Alpine PRO, Concourse PRO, Defiance PRO and RoyalGuard PRO. They include expanded borders as well as improved drop zones, specifically designed for league play.

i. Download & Run the following file: http://www.netbattletech.com/download/proseries.exe

ii. Point the Installer to your MW4: Mercenaries installation (default is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mechwarrior Mercenaries)

iii. Click the Unzip button

8. - Install MekTek Vengeance Map Pack
This map pack includes 17 original MW4:V maps converted for use in Mercs. In order to use them, you will need to have the textures from MW4:Vengeance copied/downloaded into your Mercs Maps directory. Please make sure to follow the directions EXACTLY.

Vengeance Map Pack 1.1 Quick Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Install the necessary mission files from MekTek. Download http://www.mektek.net/download.php?op=getit&lid=433 (7.46 MB) and execute it following the instructions. This program will install the necessary files to run the map pack into your Mercenaries installation. UPDATED 4/21/03 to fix CTF issues.

Step 2: Install the necessary terrain files from MW4:Vengeance. The best way to do this is to download http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw4/maps/mercmaps/VTerrain.exe (0.99 MB) and execute it following the instructions. This program will copy files from a current Vengeance installation on your computer, Disc 2 from MW4:Vengeance, or any directory you specify to your Mercenaries resource/maps folder.

Note: IF you don't have Vengeance, click on the "Required Terrain Files" links below to download the required terrain. These files should be placed in your Mercs/resource/maps folder. However, keep in mind these are big files (up to 25 MB), and you shouldn't download them unless you don't have access to the terrain files otherwise!

9. - Install MekTek Black Knight Map Pack
This map pack includes the 10 maps added with the MW4: BK expansion. In order to use them, you will need to run the Terrain Installer, as well as the UPDATE.BAT file in the maps directory. Please make sure to follow the directions EXACTLY on the instructions page.

Black Knight Map Pack 1.0 Quick Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Install the necessary mission files from MekTek. Download http://www.mektek.net/download.php?op=getit&lid=422 (6.06 MB) and execute it following the instructions. This program will install the necessary files to run the map pack into your Mercenaries installation. UPDATED 4/21/03 to fix CTF issues.

Step 2: Install the necessary terrain files from MW4:Black Knight. To do this download http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw4/maps/mercmaps/BKTerrain.exe (1.07 MB) and execute it following the instructions. This program will copy files from a current Black Knight installation on your computer, the MW4:Black Knight CD, or any directory you specify to your Mercenaries resource/maps folder.

Note: IF you don't have BK, click on the links below to download the required terrain. You MUST first copy these files to a temporary folder. DO NOT placed in your Mercs/resource/maps folder. Rather, you must run the BK Terrain installer and specify the temporary folder as the source of the terrain files. The terrain installer will copy the files to your Mercs/resource/maps folder and then apply the required patch in order for these terrains to work in Mercs! Also, keep in mind these are big files (up to 25 MB), and you shouldn't download them unless you don't have access to the terrain files otherwise!
Note - IMPORTANT: Also, some users have reported problems with the patcher and validator not launching properly during install. So, after installation, run the update.exe in your mercs/resource/maps folder to patch and then verify your terrain installation.

Vengeance and Black Knight Terrain Files

You don't need to download the "Required Terrain Files" if you already have them on your CDs or harddrive. These links are provided for those that do not have any of these older games. The missions require that these files be present in your mercs/resource/maps folder to play, or you will get the dreaded "Insert Disc 2" error.

Note: PLEASE only download these files if you have no other way of acquiring them. While there is a large amount of bandwidth designated to NBT, it is not unlimited. So if you have the CD’s or another method of acquiring these files, please make use of it. NBT will thank you for your cooperation.

10. - Run UPDATE.BAT & Update.EXE file
(located in windows explorer at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Mechwarrior Mercenaries\RESOURCE\MAPS )

11. - Install MercStorm League Map Pack
These are 7 maps created by MercStorm that use the terrains already present in MW4: Mercs. They include Coldfire, Crossover, Halthon, Orbital Decay, Ridgerunner, River Canyon and Warzone.

12. - Install AlphA Strike Studios Map Pack
These are 5 missions and custom terrains created by AlphA Strike. They include Arrowhead, Battlefront, MaxThrottle, Tetsuhara and WarFortune (4 of these are Old Stomping Grounds maps). This is a large download. 56k connects should plan on using a download manager or request it on CD from a download site like FilePlanet.

13. - Install NewBattleFields Map Pack
These are 9 missions and custom terrains created by AlphA Strike. They include Asteroid, Badlands, Cerberus, Divided, Krakatau, Mannedorf, Plains, Riverside and SolarDesert2. This is a large download. 56k connects should plan on using a download manager or request it on CD from a download site like FilePlanet. You may actually download a smaller set of files from the NewBattleFields site. The packs needed are: New Battlefields Multiplayer Missions Pack, New Battlefields Terrain Pack 1, New Battlefields Terrain Pack 2, New Battlefields Terrain Pack 3. Total file size for these seperate downloads is 116MB.

14. - Install Polar Tundra

Polar Tundra Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Install the necessary mission files from MekTek. Download http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw4/maps/mercmaps/PolarTundra.exe (1.36 MB) and execute it following the instructions. This program will install the necessary files to run the Polar Tundra map in your Mercenaries installation.
Step 2: There are TWO ways to get this terrain installed:
• Download the polar.mw4 file from:
http://www.netbattletech.com/download/terrains/Polar.zip file (25 MB) and copy it into your Mercenaries resource/maps folder. This is the converted version of the file, ready for use.

- OR -

• Download the patch files polar_patch.zip from:
http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw4/maps/mercmaps/terrains/polar_patch.zip (22K), unzip and read the instructions . This method requires that you have a Vengeance CD or installation available.

15. - Install MekTek ‘Mech Pack 1
A MekTek based expansion for MW4: Mercs. It includes 9 new ‘Mechs, a host of new weapons, as well as a number of PRO maps. For installation and specifications, please reference the NBT MekTek Expansion page.

Download the MekTek Switcher and extract/unzip into your MW4: Mercs directory. Run MekTekSwitcher.exe
GoTo: http://www.netbattletech.com/download/MP1-EasyInstall.exe

Press "Install" and follow the download/installation procedure.
At the download portion of the installation, you may choose from various mirrors to acquire the pack. If the Downloading updates.ini page holds up, click abort, and choose a different mirror.
Download size is approx. 45 megs.
During the installation, backup files will be made of the PR1 files so that you may switch between the two versions.

16. - Install MekTek ‘Mech Pack 1.1

Description: Replaces the in game (sim) minimap images in the textures.mw4 and texturesx.mw4 files with gridded versions for advanced tactical planning. Comes stock with the 6x6 grids from the previous HUD Patches, as well as a new set of 8x8 Sentinel Dawn style grids, and now allows for custom grid sets.
