Beginning of last week my internet connect started going haywire. Disconnecting and Reconnecting in a few seconds. Problem is it would do this 10-15 times in an hour.
Checked my cable modem, it is a happy camper. Replaced my old router and the still exist.
So I figured it is one of the comps.
Stolen's new one (WinXP) works fine and doesn't Disco as long as mine isn't on.
Mine is using (Win 2000) and I have replaced the Ethernet card.
Both of them have all the happy udates or they should.
So does anyone have a clue?

Don't ask mooch this question...he is going to make ya load the penquin on board.
Dunno...only thing I can think of Clepto is that you may have a port time out setting that is going a lil nutty...have ya updated your machines eithernet drivers?
ya running wireless?

Replace the patch cable.
It's Cheap, and you can use the old one during those "Special" nights...
But as Momma said, if all else fails.

Hey Clepto -
Can u describe in a little more detail what u mean by it disconnecting and reconnecting again? How do you know this is happening? Do you some sort of pop-up or are you seeing this on the router link lights?
Are you using any wireless connections?
Are you using DHCP to allow the router to assign internal IP addresses?
Does your router have some sort of error log or statistics that are showing any kind of errors or collisions?
Can you reproduce the error consistently when both machines are on and if so, can you let it "do its thing" for a period of time and then paste the output from the following DOS command:
netstat -es

I hate to admit it.... but moocher was right, it was the cable from the router to my comp or so it seems so far.
Would have never thought of it because it was affecting Stolen's comp too.
Yea Nemmy I got a program that logs the activity of when my network is active or not, It is called SpringChiken and it gripes at you when when your icon keeps popping and then dissapearing on his IM program.
Actually have a netwatch program that also screams at me when my connection starts getting eractic.
Oh Moocher, we have much better things than old cable for that.

I've seen a short in a patch cable do the exact same thing. Usually what happens is called crosstalk (google it if you're curious), and it can get nasty when you have things like routers and smart switches.
At least you didn't plug both ends of a patch cable into your router. THAT is fun to watch. :D
